Pink Martini Coming to Veterans Memorial Auditorium

Pink Martini is coming to Providence’s Veterans Memorial Auditorium with singer Storm Large on May 5.

The “little orchestra” performs a wide range of genres, including jazz, classical and old-fashioned pop, to create a unique sound all its own. In the UK, the Times even called Pink Martini “one of the world’s most elegant live bands.”

I’ve been a huge fan ever since the group came on the music scene in 1997 with its album Sympathique, which was nominated in 2000 as “Best New Artist” and for “Song of the Year” by France’s Victoires de la Musique Awards.

Since then, each time I’ve heard a Pink Martini recording it always delivers something fresh, as the group has collaborated with some of the finest names in the business, including Jimmy Scott, Rufus Wainwright, Carol Channing and more.

One of my favorite things about a Pink Martini performance is that it takes the audience on a musical trip around the world with a dozen phenomenal musicians who obviously love every moment of what they do. In one concert, you’re likely to hear songs from every continent, performed in multiple languages.

Friends of mine who go see the group perform regularly at the Hollywood Bowl always say what a special event it is. If you’ve heard similar praise, then you won’t want to miss their performance at the VETS on May 5. Tickets are available online at TheVetsRI.com or by calling (401) 421-2787.
