Embrace The Things That Make You Happy

A magnet that reads 'I like big mutts and I cannot lie.'

What speaks to you? For me, sometimes it is quirky little things like the bumper magnet above. My wife and I recently traveled to Portland, Maine on vacation and I encountered this slogan in Cool As A Moose, a fun little store on Fore Street. Being a big dog lover, it was one of those impulse buys that I just had to snag because it made me laugh. My wife just looked at me as though I had lost my mind because I normally don’t go in for bumper stickers and the like, but this one just made me happy.

Do you know what else makes me happy? Finding homes for adoptable dogs! I recently partnered with the Fairhaven Animal Shelter to find homes for fantastic canines like Annie and Diesel. I also managed to rope my wife and some of my on-air talent into helping me produce a new series of videos for these gorgeous creatures. Visit our sister site, Jathan & Heather, for more info on that.

Another thing that brightens my world is coastal living. Whether I’m walking the beach collecting seashells or watching fireworks explode high overhead, summer is a magical time for me. Having transferred to New England, the season takes on a very different meaning this year. It seems like there are incessant celebrations in the area, which include reenactments of all the American history that transpired here, from the arrival of whaling ships to the founding of towns like Dartmouth and Sandwich nearly 400 years ago.

We also tend to travel more now, which is always fun and living in New England you don’t have to go far to see and do awesome things. Already we’ve visited places like Boston’s U.S.S. Constitution and Quincy Market, Salem where the infamous witch trials were held, and Provincetown where the pilgrims first landed (and here I’d always thought it was in Plymouth).  It has all been very informative, enlightening and frequently inspiring!

Whatever you do this summer, I hope you enjoy the long, lazy days whether you get to walk barefoot on the beach, putter in your garden, read a great book or revel in the myriads of other simple pleasures of life!
